Car driver allegedly mows down toll plaza staff in UP’s Hapur
The incident was captured by the CCTVs installed at the toll plaza and police said a first information report has been registered for attempt to murder
An unidentified car driver allegedly hit and ran over a staff of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)’s Chijarsi toll plaza in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district on Sunday morning. The incident was captured by the CCTVs installed at the toll plaza and the injured staff has been identified as Shekhar Yadav. Police said a first information report (FIR) has been registered for attempt to murder.
The toll plaza is located under Phase 3 of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway project and the white coloured Brezza car bearing registration number of Noida was proceeding towards Hapur.
“The car driver was in queue behind a truck at the toll gate and was proceeding towards Hapur from Ghaziabad side. When the truck passed the gates, the car also sped behind it and escaped the gates without paying the toll. A staff on the other side of the toll tried to stop the car but it sped. However, the car turned back towards the toll on the wrong side and deliberately hit the toll staff. After hitting the staff, the driver again fled towards Hapur,” said Deepak Verma, manager of the Chijarsi toll plaza.
“The staff was rushed to hospital and has suffered multiple injuries along with fractured leg. We have given a police complaint against the Brezza car driver,” Verma added.
Station house officer (SHO) of the Pilkhuwa police station, Neeraj Kumar, said, “We have traced the car and it is a Brezza. The car driver is from Noida and our teams are trying to trace him. The investigation is on and the driver will be arrested soon. We have information that the driver had come to meet his relatives in Hapur.”
