The police said the victim was returning from a nearby Ramlila when the three suspects cornered him near a saloon and fled after inflicting severe injuries on him with a screwdriver.

The police identified the deceased as Jitendra Singh, a college student, and said he allegedly got into a fight with the three assailants at the Ramlila in his locality two days before the fatal attack.

The police said all three suspects are aged 18-19 years and identified them as Vicky Kumar, Karan Kumar and Golu Singh – all residents of Naseeb Vihar.

“Two days ago, the victim had a street fight with Golu. Golu and two his two friends late Monday night noticed that Singh was returning from the nearby Ramlila. Finding him alone, they cornered him near the saloon and attacked him. The three were arrested from Naseeb Vihar on Tuesday afternoon,” said Vivek Chandra Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (rural).

“The victim was returning home after visiting a Ramlila around 1.30am on Tuesday. The three men cornered him and inflicted severe injuries to his abdomen with a screwdriver. After the attack, the victim sought help from the saloon owner who opened his shop and also informed Singh’s family,” said Rajneesh Kumar Upadhyaya, assistant commissioner of police, Loni.

The police said Singh’s family rushed him to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries during treatment early Tuesday morning.

“The police received information about the incident on Tuesday morning and questioned locals and the saloon owner. We came to know about the three suspects as locals had seen them fighting the Singh on Monday night. We also received a complaint from the victim’s family and registered an FIR of murder against the three men,” the ACP said.

The police on Tuesday evening said they arrested the three men and booked them for murder at Tronica City police station.
