According to Radha Raman Singh, in charge of Dankaur police station, a bull suddenly came in front of the Maruti Dzire car at around 8pm on Monday.

“The black bull was not visible in the dark and the car crashed into it as the animal was standing in the middle of the expressway. The car was damaged badly but the passenger and driver were taken out of the car safely,” said Singh. The car was being driven by Kamlesh Yadav, a resident of Delhi, while Akhil, also a Delhi resident, was in the passenger seat, he said.

“The two were admitted to a hospital and were discharged after preliminary treatment. They sustained minor injuries. No complaint has been received in the matter,” said the officer.

Incidentally, this is the fourth such incident where stray cattle have led to an accident in Gautam Budh Nagar this year. Earlier on May 30, a man died after his two-wheeler hit a stray bull near the Sector 21/25 crossing in Noida. Two similar incidents were also reported last month.

Meanwhile, responding to a question in the state assembly last week, animal husbandry minister Dharampal Singh said that there are already laws in place to penalise farmers who leave their unproductive cattle on roads. He added that FIRs will be registered against such errant farmers under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
