Noida: A woman was injured after she fell from a rental motorcycle while trying to fend off snatchers near Kalindi Kunj while coming towards Noida on Friday, police said.

Police said the incident took place around 5.15pm near a bridge that connects Kalindi Kunj with Sector 39 in Noida and is about 1.5 kilometres from the Botanical Garden.

“The woman was coming from Lajpat Nagar towards her residence in Sector 70 when the snatchers, who were on a bike struck near the bridge. They pulled her bag while she was riding pillion on the rented motorcycle. She tried to hold on to her bag but fell from the motorcycle as both the two-wheelers were moving at a high speed. The suspects fled from the scene after their unsuccessful attempt and bystanders took her to a private hospital for treatment,” said Ashutosh Dwivedi, additional deputy commissioner of police (Noida).

A complaint was registered at the Sector 39 police station under Section 393 (attempt to commit robbery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on Sunday, police said.

The complainant, (31), is an IT engineer who works from home but had gone for a coaching class in Lajpat Nagar and was returning from home. She has suffered injuries in her face, neck and leg, police said.

Police officers said that the victim is doing fine now and registered a formal complaint on Sunday, after which an investigation has been initiated. The victim’s brother had earlier made an informal complaint, said police.

“We have formed two teams — one for surveillance and one for checking the CCTV footage from the area. We are hopeful that we will get a lead soon,” said ADCP Dwivedi.

A police team also visited the area on Sunday and recorded details and location of cameras along the entire stretch from Kalindi Kunj to Botanical Garden. Police have also interrogated the motorcycle rider who was hired by the complainant, police added.
