11-member central team reviews preparations for G20 meetings in Chandigarh

An 11-member team from the department of economic affairs, Union ministry of finance, on Wednesday visited the city to review arrangements for the two crucial meetings of the G20 summit to be held in Chandigarh. The first meeting will be held on January 30 and 31, while the second meeting in March

G20 nations comprise the world’s major developed and developing countries, accounting for 80% of the global GDP, 75% of international trade, and two-thirds of the world population, making it a premier forum for international economic cooperation.

The members of the team visited the venue of the meeting and Lake Club and Sukhna Lake to review the preparations.

UT home secretary Nitin Yadav said a cultural programme for the foreign delegates will be held at the Lake Club. To showcase the tradition, custom, culture and heritage of the country, they will be taken to Rock Garden, Capitol Complex and Sukhna Lake, he added.

Around 150 to 200 participants, including representatives of G20 countries, are expected to arrive in the city for the meetings.

Yadav said that the exact date for the second meeting is yet to be received from the Centre.
