According to police, the accident occurred near Belwa Madho village when the bus carrying about 76 passengers was on its way to Delhi from Saharsa around 9.15pm on Wednesday.

Prima facie, it appears that the driver of the bus drove rashly, causing the vehicle to skid on the road that was slippery because of the rains, Gupta said.

“The bus was running at a high speed. We had to ask the driver to slow down but were mocked at by the conductor,” said Niranjan Sharma, who boarded the bus at Darbhanga.

Locals helped the occupants get off the bus. The injured were rushed to a local hospital where they were given first aid before being discharged.

Police were yet to register a case at the time of filing this report.
