Police said that the deceased’s wife was also grievously injured in the accident and suffered from multiple fractures, adding that the SUV driver is still at large.

According to investigators, the accident took place at about 10pm on Sunday, when the deceased and his wife were returning home. They said that the deceased, identified as Sardeep (34), spotted the speeding SUV with at least three occupants hurling towards him. He immediately started moving his motorcycle back with his wife Samina (31), seated behind, in an attempt to maintain a safe distance from the speeding vehicle.

However, by the time he could move aside, the SUV rammed his motorcycle and ran over him. Investigators said that Sardeep got stuck under the vehicle and got dragged for almost 200 metres. They said that Samina was flung into the air from the impact of the collision.

Police said that Sardeep’s family members took him to a nearby private hospital in Manesar, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Samina was also initially treated at the same hospital but was later shifted to a multi-specialty hospital in Sector 87.

Ajay Kumar, a relative of the deceased, said that the SUV did not stop even after hitting Sardeep and Samina.

“Sardeep got stuck under the vehicle and was later found lying injured and unconscious several metres ahead of the spot where the accident took place,” Kumar said. He said that Samina had undergone a surgery on her right hand on Monday and was presently stable.

An FIR was registered against the unidentified SUV driver under Section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304A (causing death by negligence), 337 (acting rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by acting rashly or negligently as to endanger human life or the personal safety of others) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of 50 or above) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at IMT Manesar police station on Monday evening, said police.

Inspector Subhash Chand, station house officer (SHO) of IMT Manesar police station, said the suspect will be arrested at the earliest.
