Mizoram University appeals for peace in letter to ministry of education
The letter comes in wake of the recent incident of vandalism reported in Manipur University where several students and teachers were injured along with destruction of property
The three recognized bodies under Mizoram University, namely, Mizoram University Teachers’ Association, Mizoram University Non-Teaching Employees Association and Mizoram University Students’ Council on Tuesday have written a letter to the secretary of higher education in the ministry of education urging to take necessary action to prevail peace in central universities.
The letter comes in wake of the recent incident of vandalism reported in Manipur University where several students and teachers were injured along with destruction of property.
In their letter appealing for peace in central universities to take necessary and appropriate steps in the wake of vandalism at Manipur University, they stated that the untoward incidents like the ones at Manipur University can hamper security of all other central universities in the country.
In their joint statement, they wrote, “University is a place for higher education which should provide freedom to all students regardless of caste, sex, religion and region to enable them to pursue their studies in a conducive atmosphere. We strongly condemn the incident which took place in Manipur University which resulted in the destruction of central university as well as private properties. This is clearly deviating from the very spirit of what higher educational institution is expected to be.”
“The manner in which these incidents took place inside the university campus is found to be an indication of failure in maintaining law and order and security for those residing inside the campus,” the statement added.
“We strongly feel that if untoward incidents like the ones mentioned could happen in one Central University, the security of all other Central Universities could be at stake which seems to be of serious concern”, it read.
