Khelo India University Games: Torch reaches Kashi; directives issued for smooth conduct
240 wrestlers and 96 yoga enthusiasts will be seen in action in Varanasi where the two contests will be held.
The relay torch to create awareness about Khelo India University Games reached Kaithi, Varanasi via Ghazipur on Wednesday. District Magistrate S Rajalingam and chief development officer Himanshu Nagpal received the relay torch.

This is one of the four relay torches flagged off by chief minister Yogi Adityanath from Indira Gandhi Pratisthan, Lucknow for the promotion and creating awareness about the third edition of Khelo India University Games-2023.
Meanwhile, 240 wrestlers and 96 yoga enthusiasts will be seen in action in Varanasi where the two contests will be held.
Navneet Sehgal, additional chief secretary, sports, reviewed preparations for the games in Varanasi, on Wednesday. Sehgal instructed that there should not be any inconvenience to the players. Smooth movement of traffic should be ensured so that the players don’t have to face traffic jams while on their way to the event venue from their place of stay.
He said that proper arrangements for stay and food should be made for the players coming from other districts to participate in the event. He said that help desks should be set up at railway stations and airports so that visitors do not face any problems. Players coming to the airport and railway station should not have to wait unnecessarily.
The food safety officer and the district supply officer should ensure that that the food given to the players is checked. Special attention should be paid to ensuring cleanliness in and around the programme venue.
He directed the chief medical officer to make arrangements for a temporary hospital of 1-2 beds at the programme venue and deploy a physician there.
In addition, emergency numbers should also be made available at the place of stay of the athletes.
Sehgal also inspected sports stadium, Varanasi.
In the meeting, commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma, district magistrate S Rajalingam, municipal commissioner Shipu Giri, ADM City Gulabchand, ADM Protocol Bachchu Lal and other officers were prominently present.
