Gaya youth assault: Case registered against six, one arrested
A mob in Bihar’s Gaya allegedly tied a youngster to a handpump, stripped and assaulted him, before shaving his head, moustache and eyebrows, accusing him of stealing a mobile phone
The Gaya Police’s special investigation team (SIT) identified the mob assault victim and registered a case against six named accused on the statement of his mother.
A mob allegedly tied a youngster to a handpump, stripped and assaulted him, before shaving his head, moustache and eyebrows, accusing him of stealing a mobile phone at Murarpur locality under Kotwali police station limits of Gaya town.
After the viral video of the gruesome incident was noticed by senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ashish Bharti on Sunday night, a SIT under city SP Himanshu was formed to identify the victim and accused persons. The victim had not complained to the police.

The SIT identified the victim, a resident of Murarpur locality. A case under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 307 (attempt to murder), 504 O(insult intended to provoke breach of peace), 355 (assault) 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered with Kotwali police station on the statement of his mother.
Police arrested one accused namely Anil Thakur from Murarpur locality within 30 minutes of registering the case. Thakur confessed that he had tonsured and shaved the victim. To be sure, a confession or disclosure statement of any person made before a police officer is not admissible as evidence before a court unless it is backed by other evidence. Only a confession before a judge is admissible as evidence against an accused.
The SIT was conducting raids to arrest the other accused, SSP Bharti on Tuesday said.
Bharti appealed to the people not to take law in their hands and warned for stringent action.
