SPPU V-C interview to be held on May 18 and 19

The search and selection committee constituted to choose the vice-chancellor (V-C) of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will interview candidates at IIT Bombay on May 18 and 19. The panel has shortlisted 27 applicants.

The panel chaired by Anil Sahasrabudhe, former chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), was constituted by the state government. Of the recommended names, 11 candidates are from Pune, while the others are from different cities, including Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nanded, Latur, Kolhapur, Raigad, and Jalgaon. The maximum number of candidates shortlisted is from the science stream, while others are associated with economics and public policy, distance and open learning, defence and strategic studies, and engineering.

The candidates selected from Pune include Anjali Dinkar Kurane, senior professor and head, department of anthropology, and director, school of human studies; Avinash Shankar Kumbhar, senior professor, department of chemistry; Sandesh R Jadkar, senior professor and head, department of physics; Sanjay D Dhole, senior professor, department of physics; Suresh Wamangir Gosavi, senior professor and head, department of environmental science and director, school of physical science; Vijay S Khare, senior professor and head, department of defence and strategic studies; Sanjeev A Sonawane, senior professor and head, department of education and extension; Vilas Sheshrao Kharat, senior professor, department of maths; Manohar G Chaskar, principal (professor grade); Ramkrishna More Arts Commerce and Science College, Akurdi, Pune, and dean, (additional charge), faculty of science and technology; Parag C Kalkar, director, Sinhgad Business School, Pune and additional charge of faculty of commerce and management, and Prof. Raju N Gacche, department of biotechnology.
