As Ganesh Chaturthi nears, Pune will witness light rainfall till August 31, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials.

On Thursday, Pashan reported 0.2mm rainfall, however, no rainfall was reported in Shivajinagar, Lohegaon, Chinchwad , Lavale and Magarpatta.
Anupam Kashaypi, head of weather forecasting department at IMD Pune said, “Partly cloudy skies are likely in the city limits till August 31. The overall rainfall activity is likely to be subdued in Pune city and district, as a result, there are no warnings for ghat regions around the city,” said Kashyapi.
He added that rainfall activity over central India which includes Maharashtra is likely to be reduced till the end of this month.
“The well marked low pressure area over south west Rajasthan and neighbourhood now lies over south east Pakistan and adjoining south west Rajasthan with associated cyclonic circulation extending up to middle tropospheric levels till Thursday evening. The western end of the monsoon trough at mean sea level is south of its normal position and eastern end is near its normal position. A cyclonic circulation lies over south Jharkhand and neighbourhood extending up to middle tropospheric levels. Under these systems, the rainfall activity over Maharashtra is likely to reduce,” said IMD officials.
Kashyapi added that therefore there are no warnings for any subdivisions from Maharashtra till August 30. “Over Marathwada and Vidarbha isolated places may report thunderstorms and lightning till August 29. But rainfall will be restricted to isolated places in the region,” said Kashyapi.
