Maha-Metro to identify land at busy Katraj chowk for TBMs

As we have carried out Metro work at busy areas, including Mahatma Phule Mandai, we will work out a plan to manage the traffic issue at Katraj chowk, says official

Though Swargate to Katraj underground Metro route now only awaits the Centre’s approval, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro) faces the big task of finding land at busy Katraj chowk for housing tunnel boring machines (TBM).

A Maha-Metro official said, “As we have carried out Metro work at busy areas, including Mahatma Phule Mandai, we will work out a plan to manage the traffic issue at Katraj chowk.”

Hemant Sonawane, Maha-Metro public relations officer, said, “We have carried out primary survey to identify the entry and exit point of TBMs. The heavy machines will dig from Swargate and end at Katraj. Technical details will be finalised before starting the work on ground.”

A PMC official on anonymity said, “We have already identified places at Katraj chowk. We can temporarily shift the PMPML bus stop or use two vacant plots available. Maha-Metro will execute the plan and we will extend our support.”
