The Warje Malwadi Police on Tuesday arrested a 30-year-old man, Vijay Singh Gund of Ahilyanagar, for allegedly blackmailing a young woman and demanding ₹20 lakh, threatening to circulate her private photographs online if his demands were not met, police said on Wednesday.

The case came to light after a 24-year-old woman filed a complaint on Tuesday, reporting months of persistent stalking and harassment by Gund. The situation escalated when he allegedly gained possession of some of her private photos and used them to demand a ransom, threatening to upload the “obscene” images to social media to damage her reputation.

Acting on the complaint, the police conducted a technical investigation, laid a strategic trap, and apprehended Gund.

A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology (IT) Act.

Further investigation is underway to determine whether Gund targeted other women using similar tactics.
