In a shocking revelation, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) Pune division has uncovered two major electricity thefts. The ₹1.44 crore larceny was committed by two commercial establishments over the last several months in Wagholi. MSEDCL officials have now filed a police report against these companies and ordered that their electricity bills be paid immediately.

According to the information provided by the distribution company, MSEDCL squads recently raided Wagholi and discovered two cases of electricity thefts with similar modus operandi. The electricity thieves have been booked at the Lonikand police station.
The squad members first exposed M/S Rohan stone crusher company’s power theft. During the investigation, it was discovered that the electricity was stolen by laying the cable and bypassing the metre. As it turns out, this customer stole a total of 4,25,072 units and was charged a power theft bill of ₹74.8 lakh.
In a similar incident, it has come to light that M/S Prithviraj Enterprises stone crusher has stolen a total of 3,55,354 units and for this, the company has been levied a power theft bill of ₹69.6 lakh.
A police complaint has been filed at Lonikand Police Station under Section 135 of the Electricity Act 2003 against both of these industrial consumers.
The raid was part of the power theft detection campaign initiated by MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Vijay Singhal.
