Pune civic chief presents ₹9,515 crore budget

Pune: Pune municipal commissioner and administrator Vikram Kumar on Friday presented a 9,515 crore budget for the year 2023-24. The budget size that is higher by 923 crore than the previous year carries no tax hike proposals.

Kumar said, “We did not propose any tax hike but expect growth in revenue next year. We are expecting additional income from GST, property tax and building permission to match the hike in budget this year. Income from 34 merged villages is also expected.”

The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) budget size for 2022-23 was 8,592 crore. “We are expecting to get income up to 7,500 crore and have received 5,750 crore till January 2023. As there are no elected members, we have allocated 1 crore for each ward development fund. PMC plans to borrow loan of 400 crore this year,” he said.

PMC’s main expenditure is on salary and 3,139 crore will be needed for 2023-24. The other major expense is 3,755 for development works. The development works include the 24x7 water scheme, riverfront development project and sewage treatment plants.
