The central government launched the Smart City Mission in 2014 and Pune was selected in the first phase. A total of eight cities from Maharashtra are part of this mission.

As the deadline for the mission will end by March 2023, on Monday, Patil held a meeting with civic officials and took review of various ongoing works in the city.

Pune municipal commissioner Vikram Kumar, Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited chief executive officer (CEO) Sanjay Kolte, MLA Madhuri Misal and Siddharth Shirole were present for the meeting.

Kolte said, “We gave a detailed presentation to the guardian minister about ongoing works and the deadline to complete the projects. As the mission is getting over, we are trying our best to complete maximum work before March 31, 2023.”

Kolte said, “The work of adaptive traffic management, and installing LED lights are in progress and will complete by June. We are sure to execute all the works in the given stipulated time.”

BJP MLA Shirole raised various objections over the functioning of the project. Shirole said, “Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and Smart City are not fulfilling their responsibilities in Aundh, Pashan areas. We raised various issues, but both agencies are playing the blame game. Even the work on the road between DAV Public School and Medi Point hospital is incomplete. Residents are suffering due to incomplete works.”
