Pune: The Pune police have externed 59 criminals out of the city limits under the Maharashtra Prevention of Dangerous Activities of slumlords, bootleggers, drug offenders, dangerous persons and video pirates Act of 1981 (MPDA) Act.

Dadya Santosh Shinde ( 22), a criminal from Rajgad Chawl in Upper Bibvewadi was the 59th accused to be externed out of Pune and has been lodged at Harsul Jail in Aurangabad. According to the police, Shinde has serious offences ranging from attempt to murder, rioting and possession of illegal and dangerous arms registered at him at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station. A total of four criminal cases have been lodged against him during the past five years.

Police commissioner Amitabh Gupta has invoked Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOCA) Act on 70 gangs and gangsters in his bid to keep organised crime on tight leash in the city ever since he took over as the police chief.
