Residents of peth areas and Kondhwa have complained on the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) official Twitter handle about mosquito menace in their localities.

Doctors have advised to avoid delay in treatment if one has a history of fever, headache, rashes, muscle and joint pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, as malaria and Covid have similar symptoms. (REPRESENTATIVE PHOTO)

Twitter users also complained of facing mosquito issue in Hadapsar and Aundh.

Irfan Nadewale, who drives an autorickshaw in Kondhwa and has been staying in the area for the past two years, said, “Mosquitoes become active during the evening hours. The problem won’t go away till people stop throwing garbage on roadsides and start using dustbins.”

Dr Rajesh Gadia, a consulting physician at KEM hospital, said, “There is a rise in mosquito-borne disease cases reported from peth areas. Mosquitoes start breeding only after the first rains, but PMC should focus on fogging areas before that. The best solution to deal with dengue or any mosquito-borne disease is not to treat it, but prevent an outbreak in the first place.”

Jyoti Dhotre, assistant municipal commissioner, said “Fogging is done regularly in all areas. We take swift action after receiving complaint of any affected locality.”

Meanwhile, doctors have advised to avoid delay in treatment if one has a history of fever, headache, rashes, muscle and joint pain, vomiting and diarrhoea, as malaria and Covid have similar symptoms.
