SPPU, BARC to set up centre to boost rural innovation, entrepreneurship

Pune: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), Mumbai to establish “Advanced Knowledge and Rural Technology Implementation (AKRUTI) Kendra” at the university campus, aimed at fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and rural technology development.

The proposed centre will be set up at the SPPU Research Park Foundation (RPF) to support innovators and startups.

Under the programme, products based on technologies developed by the department of atomic energy (DAE) and BARC will be made available for display, demonstration, dissemination, training, manufacturing and marketing.

In the initial phase, some technologies will be offered free of cost to students, innovators and startups and later at concessional rates.

The MoU was signed by Suresh Gosavi, SPPU vice-chancellor and Daniel Babu P, head, Technology Transfer and Commercialisation Division, BARC.
