New Delhi: An eight-foot long python was rescued from the roof of a shanty at a construction site behind Sunlight Colony in southeast Delhi on Friday evening. The snake was stuck between the thatch and bamboo sticks on the roof when one of the workers spotted it and raised an alarm.
The snake, an Indian Rock Python, was rescued by Wildlife SOS, an NGO. “The large snake was carefully extricated and transferred to a transit facility for temporary observation. The python had wandered into a settlement where construction work is going on. The site workers have set up temporary housing behind the colony. One of the workers discovered the snake curled up on the roof of their hut,” the NGO said in a statement.
Around 30 species of snakes have been rescued from Delhi out of which only four are venomous --- Spectacle Cobra, Common Krait, Saw Scale Viper and Russell’s Viper.
Among the snakes that have been rescued, the maximum are Spectacled Cobra, Common Krait, Python, Indian Rat Snake, Common Sand Boa, Wolf Snake and Black Headed Royal Snake among others.
Meanwhile, in a similar incident in Gurugram, employees of a manufacturing company had an unusual encounter with a monitor lizard in the warehouse, which was later rescued by Wildlife SOS.
