BCCI reveals why Jasprit Bumrah, Harshal Patel are missing from India's Asia Cup 2022 squad, names three standby players
Harshal had earlier missed the second and third T20I match of the ongoing series against West Indies after he suffered a rib injury. He was also not picked for the series opener in Trinidad earlier this month.
India fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were on Monday ruled out of the impending Asia Cup 2022 tournament as BCCI's selection committee named their 15-man squad for the tournament that is slated to begin from August 27 onwards. Harshal had earlier missed the second and third T20I match of the ongoing series against West Indies after he suffered a rib injury. He was also not picked for the series opener in Trinidad earlier this month. Meanwhile, Bumrah had last played for India in the ODI away series in England and was rested for the limited-overs tour of West Indies and the upcoming one against Zimbabwe.

Bumrah has been incurring from some back issues while Harshal had reportedly incurred a side strain during the West Indies tour.
“Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection owing to injuries. They are currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru,” said BCCI in their statement.
Harshal, who is presently with the Indian team in Florida for the West Indies series, last appeared for India in the T20I series against England where he picked four wickets in 11 overs across three innings. He also played one T20I in Ireland and four matches in the home series against South Africa picking eight wickets.
Harshal has played a vital role in India's T20I set-up since being handed his debut cap in 2021, in the home series against New Zealand, which had followed immediately after the 2021 T20 World Cup. In 17 appearances hence, Harshal has picked 23 wickets (joint-highest alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar) at an average of 20.95.
Besides the 15-man squad that BCCI announced, the selection committee also named three standby players for the Asia Cup. Batter Shreyas Iyer, fast bowler Deepak Chahar and left-arm spinner Axar Patel is part of the list.
