'He wanted to answer his critics...': Bravo says 'Dhoni's guidance' and 'new approach' behind Rahane's turnaround
Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Dwayne Bravo said Ajinkya Rahane wanted to silence the critics and he has been helped by the backing of CSK captain MS Dhoni.
Two days after India's WTC final squad announcement, Ajinkya Rahane still continues to be the topic of discussion. The experienced right-hander who last played for India in January 2022 in South Africa, was named in India's 15-member squad for the WCT final against Australia a month after he was snubbed from the annual central contracts.
Was it because of his superb show in IPL 2023, where he is currently scoring at a strike rate of 199 with two match-winning fifties in five matches? Or did Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant's injuries force the selectors to fall back on Rahane? Is it only for this WTC final? The questions are plenty. But Rahane won't complain. He would want to make the most of his second life and he has the full backing of his IPL franchise.

Chennai Super Kings bowling coach Dwayne Bravo said Rahane wanted to silence the critics and he has been helped by the backing of CSK captain MS Dhoni. The former West Indies star also lauded Rahane for making a few subtle changes in order to attack more.
“The CSK team management always backs and encourages every player and Rahane was no different. He has changed his approach and worked very hard on his batting. He wanted to answer the critics with his bat and he is doing just that. The result of Rahane is the combination of his changed mindset and the guidance of Dhoni as a leader. I am sure he will continue to do well for CSK as well as for the Indian Test side in the future,” Bravo told reporters ahead of CSK's match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
Bravo revealed how happy the team management is to see Rahane make a comeback into the Indian side. He also lauded the 34-year-old as one of the best Indian players to have played in the IPL
“We all are very happy with Rahane’s selection in the Indian Test team. For me, he is one of the best local players to play in the IPL. He has proved his credentials once again to regain his spot in the national team. I have always been a very big fan of Rahane. He has done well in earlier IPLs also while playing with various teams including RR. Now he is proving his worth for the CSK,” said Bravo.
