Both New Zealand and South Africa had gotten off to winning starts at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. New Zealand beat Sri Lanka by 9 wickets thanks largely to a ton from skipper Suzie Bates.

Meanwhile, South Africa managed to chase down a score of 207 against Pakistan despite a middle order collapse that actually brought Sana Mir’s side back into the game.

However, neither side was able to build on their positive starts to the tournament as the match at Derby ended up being called off.

The toss was delayed due to massive showers and although the rains eventually relented, the massive puddles on the outfield ensured that the game wouldn’t go ahead.

Both teams play their next games on Sunday. New Zealand will take on Australia, whilst South Africa will take on West Indies.
