Records were broken and scripted as India won their first Test series under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, beating Sri Lanka by 238 runs in Bengaluru on Monday to register a 2-0 whitewash. And among those record scripters was young Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah who joined a magnificent Test list after his record-equalling five-wicket haul at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Sunday.

Bumrah finished with 5 for 24 in the first innings that helped India fold Sri Lanka for just 109 in the first innings. It was his maiden five wicket haul at home and eighth in his 29-match career. Only the legendary Kapil Dev had as many five-wicket hauls among Indian seamers at the same point in his career.

With India winning the game, Bumrah became the first ever Indian bowler to record match-winning five-wicket hauls in Test cricket in all the five continents - Asia, Africa, Europe, Americas, Oceania.

The other fifers include - 5/54 against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2018, 5/85 against England in Nottingham in 2018, 5/33 against Australia in Melbourne in 2019, 5/7 and 6/27 against West Indies in North Sound and Kingston respectively in 2019.

Overall, he became the fourth bowler in world cricket to achieve the feat after Graham McKenzie, Jason Gillespie and Dale Steyn.

The 5 for 24 recorded in Bengaluru is also the best figure by an Indian pacer in Tests against Sri Lanka and third best overall.

Talking about the match, Bumrah's brilliance and Shreyas Iyer-Rishabh Pant's batting helped India script a massive win in Bengaluru, hence maintaining their unbeaten run in pink-ball Tests at home.

They had earlier defeated Bangladesh in their historic first in 2019 and beaten England in Ahmedabad in 2021.

The win also marked the end of India's home Test season where they won 15 of their 16 Tests during the period, with one ending in no-result.
