India vs England: Virat Kohli equals Virender Sehwag, Sunil Gavaskar next in line

Virat Kohli has been the best batsmen in the ongoing Test series against England till now, with his 23rd Test taking his series average to 73.33.

Virat Kohli joined Virender Sehwag as fourth in the list of Indian batsman with most Test centuries as the right-hander scored his 23rd ton on Day 3 of the third Test match against England at Trent Bridge on Tuesday.

Kohli, who has enjoyed a brilliant run of form in the ongoing series, scored 103 off 197 runs as India declared their second innings at 352 for seven, leaving the hosts a target of 521 runs.

The Indian skipper took just 118 innings to reach the milestone in comparison to Sehwag’s 178 and the next hurdle for him will be legendary opener Sunil Gavaskar who has 34 centuries from 214 innings. Sachin Tendulkar is at the top of the list with 51 centuries while ‘The Wall’ Rahul Dravid has 36.

It has been an eventful Test match for Kohli as he scored his second ton of the series and in the process, went past Mohammad Azharuddin’s tally of 426 runs to become the Indian captain with most runs in a series in England.

Kohli has been the best batsmen in the series till now, with his 23rd Test taking his series average to 73.33. He made 149 in the first test at Edgbaston and thanks to the brilliant run of form, he is in line to return to the top of the ICC Test batting rankings above Australia’s Steve Smith.
