India vs Netherlands, T20 World Cup 2022 Highlights: IND thrash NED by 56 runs, go top of the table

Winning a game like that (match against Pakistan) takes your confidence to the next level but at the same time we understand we need to stay calm, just the first game of the tournament and plenty of things to happen. It is important for us to keep ticking those boxes. Touch slower I guess from what we played in Melbourne. The pitch has been used for 40 overs so I expect it is going to be slightly slower. The two teams are out in the middle and the national anthems are being played.

Rohit Sharma has won the toss and India will bat first. No changes in the team.

Right the two captains are in the middle and they have exchanged team sheets. Matter of seconds before we know what they know. 

He is in his full Indian jersey while some of his teammates are still going through some drills. Toss is not too far away. 

You might remember this one, you may have seen endless highlight reels of it on Star Sports as well. And yet, let's just recap it once because why not. Pakistan batted first at a heaving MCG. They scored 159/8. India were tottering at 31/4 right after the powerplay and it still looked unlikely that they would complete the chase going into the last two overs. Then came Virat Kohli's stunning assault on the dangerous Haris Rauf and Pakistan committing hara-kiri in the final over and India dramatically won the match off the last ball.  

South Africa have won the match by 104 runs. South Africa had scored 205/5, Bangladesh cut a very sorry figure indeed, getting all out for 101 with their highest partnership being the 26-run opening stand. 

There was a bit of a storm earlier in the day in Sydney but that seems like a distant memory now. It is now nice and sunny over the SCG and so rain delays seem highly unlikely today. 

There are eight overs left in the match and just 10 minutes to go for the toss of India's game. It is all but confirmed that this will be delayed now. However, it may not be by too many minutes as Bangladesh are down to their last three wickets now. Conversely, it also means that South Africa come out of this with a big net run rate boost and so, India have their task cut out for the day.  

This is the first time India are facing the Netherlands in the T20 World Cup but there have been two matches between these two sides in the ODI World Cup. The first was in 2003, which India won by 68 runs. The second was in 2011, which India won by five wickets. Indian fans would know that the 2003 and 2011 World Cups were quite fruitful tournaments for their team, but don't read too much into these omens please unless you like to be disappointed by them.

They are the rank underdogs in this match and there is every chance that they will be utterly steamrolled today. But India know better than to take it easy. The Netherlands have made a good account of themselves thus far, beating the UAE and performed pretty well against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. 

The reason why one can expect at least the toss for this match to be delayed is that the match being played before this at the SCG, South Africa vs Bangladesh, had a slight rain delay. While none of the overs were lost, the fact remains that everything from the toss to the end of the South African innings was delayed. South Africa have scored a mammoth 205/5 and have Bangladesh on the ropes but if the latter are to play their full 20 overs, it is likely that toss for the second match of the day won't take place at the scheduled time of 12pm. 

After a big game against their arch-rivals, comes a relatively straightforward prospect against associate nation Netherlands. India, however, will know better than to take it easy in this game. Apart from the fact that the Netherlands have proven that they can be a dangerous side in the first round, there is also sweet net run rate bonuses that India can grab here. Considering the fact that South Africa have just gone to town with the bat against Bangladesh at the SCG, it could be important for India to record as comprehensive a win as they can today.
