Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal returned to One Day Internationals in style during the opening encounter of the 3-match series against Sri Lanka on Sunday in Colombo. Playing an ODI for India after a gap of seven months, Chahal picked up a wicket off the very first ball he bowled in the game.

Sri Lankan openers Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka went off to a decent start after the hosts opted to bat first. They stitched a 49-run stand for the first wicket before Chahal got the breakthrough for the visitors.

The leg-spinner came to bowl the 10th over after Buvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Chahar opened India’s bowling attack. Chahal bowled a tossed-up leg break and Avishka chipped it straight to the Manish Pandey who was posted at the cover. Sri Lanka were reduced to 49 for 1 and the opener was out for 32 off 35 deliveries. (India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI Live)

Earlier, Sri Lanka had won the toss and opted to bat. Indian captain Shikhar Dhawan, who is captaining the Indian team for the first time, said that attacking batsman Prithvi Shaw will open with him. Moreover, it’s the first time since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 that the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal is coming back in the line-up.

The match also witnessed Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan make their ODI debuts. They began their international careers promisingly earlier this year in T20Is against England at home.
