Harvik Desai

Age 27IndiaINDIA
Right Handed Wicket Keeper

Harvik Desai has established himself as one of Saurashtra's most reliable top-order batters, combining a sound technique with the patience to build long innings. A right-handed batter and wicketkeeper, he was born in Bhavnagar and came through the Saurashtra age-group system before making his List A debut in 2017. His progress accelerated at the India Under-19 level, where he represented the side in both Tests and ODIs before being selected for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup-winning squad. Desai played a crucial role in India's triumph, scoring the winning runs in the final against Australia, and finished the tournament with 157 runs in four innings at an average of 78.50.

That success was quickly followed by his senior breakthrough. Desai made his first-class debut for Saurashtra during the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy season and scored 78 in his first match, providing an early indication of his temperament. He went on to enjoy an outstanding debut campaign, finishing with 781 runs, including a century and six fifties. Although he had kept wickets regularly during his junior career, he initially established himself in the senior side primarily as an opener, with his compact technique and ability to leave the ball making him well suited to the role.

Desai's development continued as Saurashtra became one of the dominant teams in domestic cricket. He was part of the side that won the Ranji Trophy in 2019-20, scoring 597 runs in 11 games and then played a significant role in their next title-winning campaign in 2022-23, racking up 614 runs when Saurashtra also lifted the Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he amassed 440 runs in 10 games. One of his most memorable innings that season came against Tamil Nadu, where he produced a patient 101 on a difficult, deteriorating surface, standing out as the only batter from either side to make a century. His contribution to Saurashtra's successful Ranji campaign was further underlined in the final against Bengal, where he opened the batting and helped set the platform for another title.

His recent career has also brought greater leadership responsibility. Desai was appointed Saurashtra's captain for the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy and responded with a crucial unbeaten century against Uttar Pradesh in the quarter-final, scoring 100 not out from 116 balls as Saurashtra progressed to the semi-finals in a rain-affected contest. He was the leading run-scorer for his side, with 581 runs at an average of 64.55. He also enjoyed an excellent Ranji Trophy campaign that season, finishing with 481 runs from seven matches, including a career-best unbeaten 200 against Chandigarh. Those performances showed that he remained a major part of Saurashtra's plans in the longer format, being named in the 2026/27 Ranji Trophy squad, while also developing into a leader within the side.
