A tall all-rounder hailing from Barbados, Roston Chase has established himself as one of the more senior and experienced members of the West Indian squad across formats, with 115 appearances split fairly evenly across all three forms of the game.
Chosen as a batting-first allrounder who could bowl tight lines and lengths and make use of his height in the Caribbean conditions, Chase has added several dimensions to his game with time, capable of batting in several positions across the order and also acting as a frontline spinner when required.
Domestic upcoming
Roston Chase made his debut domestically at the age of 18 in the West Indies’ domestic four day competition, but would only become a regular for Barbados a couple of years later. His breakthrough would come in the 2014-15 season, where he began to show consistent performances with bat and also become a viable all-round candidate with increased bowling responsibilities. That season was a successful one for Roston Chase as he finished with 534 runs in 8 innings.
His 2015-16 domestic campaign would be even stronger, as he scored 710 runs and contributed 23 wickets for Barbados, and earned a callup to the national team through his all-round talents.
International career — early success
Roston Chase made his international debut in the 2016 home series against India. He and the Windies would struggle in the first match as they lost by an innings, but the second Test in Jamaica made the cricket world sit up and take notice of the tall Barbadian.
Roston Chase became only the fourth West Indian to take a five-fer in one innings and notch up a century during the same Test, joining the likes of Garfield Sobers. His performance at Sabina Park saw him score an unbeaten 137 as he and the Windies clinched a last-day draw with their backs against the wall.
He would nearly repeat the trick the following year in the famous series against Pakistan. In the third Test with the series tied at 1-1, Roston Chase looked to be saving another Test match from the jaws of defeat, but was stranded on 101* at the other end while Shannon Gabriel was dismissed attempting the infamous slog against Yasir Shah with 2 overs left on day 5.
In all, Roston Chase has 5 Test centuries in his Test career, which stands at nearly 50 matches. While his form has fluctuated, he's been a dependable and reliable fixture in the Windies red ball squad.
White ball exploits
Roston Chase is somewhat unique amongst his Windies compatriots, in that he has not crafted a journeyman career playing overseas franchise T20 tournament in the way many of his teammates from the Caribbean prefer to. He has however represented the St Lucia Zouks in the CPL, as well as the Comilla Victorians in Bangladesh.
Roston Chase was part of the T20 World Cup squad in 2024, batting as high as number 3 and playing an anchor role in a team full of powerful big hitters. He has a strong record in the international games he has played in T20s, contributing effectively with both bat and ball.
