Born on October 25, 1996, in Wazirpur, Barisal, Tanvir Islam is a skilled slow left-arm orthodox spinner who represents Bangladesh in international cricket and Barishal Division in domestic tournaments. Recognized for his metronomic accuracy, sharp drift, and ability to constrain run-rates in the middle overs, Tanvir steadily worked his way through Bangladesh’s domestic framework - making his First-Class and T20 debuts during the 2017-18 season for Barishal Division and Khulna Titans respectively.
He gained widespread recognition during the Bangladesh Emerging squad’s home series against the Ireland Wolves in February 2021, where he produced a match-winning 13-wicket haul in the unofficial Test match - headlined by career-best figures of 8/51 in the second innings.
Consistently topping bowling charts in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League and the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) - including prominent stints with Comilla Victorians and Fortune Barishal - he earned his T20 International debut against England on March 14, 2023, claiming Phil Salt as his maiden international wicket. He was subsequently included in Bangladesh's 15-member squad for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
Tanvir expanded his international role into One Day Internationals, debuting against Sri Lanka on July 2, 2025. In only his second ODI on July 5, 2025, he registered his maiden five-wicket haul (5 for 39), dismantling Sri Lanka's top and middle order.
Throughout 2025 and 2026, Tanvir solidified his status as a key white-ball spin option for Bangladesh across bilateral series against West Indies, Australia, and Zimbabwe. During the home ODI series against Australia in June 2026 and the Zimbabwe tour in July 2026, he continued to provide disciplined middle-overs control.
Heading into October 2026, Tanvir remained an integral part of Bangladesh's national white-ball bowling setup alongside his primary duties for Barishal Division in the National Cricket League.
