Shikhar Dhawan likely to make stunning India return as captain as BCCI set to name 'B' team for 2023 mega event: Report
The senior India batter could make a return to Team India in the mega continental event, scheduled to take place in September-October this year.
Team India has quite an eventful cricketing calendar this year. While the World Test Championship final headlined the first half of the calendar – where India faced a disappointing loss to Australia – the side will be aiming for positive results in the remaining half that includes the blockbuster ODI World Cup at home, as well as the Asia Cup preceding the global tournament. But these aren't the only two major trophies at stake for India; the side is also scheduled to take part at the quadrennial Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Hangzhou in China.
Both, men's and women's teams will take part at the Games and according to PTI, a senior member of the Indian team is likely to make a comeback to the side for the tournament. A report from PTI suggests Shikhar Dhawan might be returning as captain for the side at the Games, while India's main team continues its preparations for the World Cup.

“Shikhar Dhawan's name is doing rounds as the captain of the India B team that will take part in the quadrennial extravaganza,” PTI reported on Thursday.
The men's competition at the Asian Games will coincide with India's World Cup preparations, so a second string side is expected to take part in the continental event.
Dhawan has remained out of contention from Indian ODI squad since December last year, following inconsistent performances in the fifty-over format. He was succeeded by young opener Shubman Gill in the role; Dhawan is yet to represent India in any format this year. However, this won't be the first time when Dhawan could lead the Indian team; the left-handed opener had captained the side against New Zealand in a three-match ODI series last year, and had also led a second-string side against Sri Lanka in both, ODIs and T20Is in 2021.
Meanwhile, a full-strength women's team will be in action at the Games and will be favourites to win the gold. The women's team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, had also participated in the Commonwealth Games last year where it finished runners-up, losing to Australia in the final.
