Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting name their choices for India’s No. 4 in World Cup 2019
Sourav Ganguly was also all praise for wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and said that in the next ten years, the youngster will be an asset to the Indian cricket team.
The debate over who will bat at No.4 for the Indian cricket team has been waging on for quite some time now and various former cricketers have weighed in on the matter in the last couple of weeks.
Delhi Capitals advisor Sourav Ganguly surprised everyone with his choice and when asked about it once again, he explained why he picked Cheteshwar Pujara as his pick for the No. 4 position.
“Many choices are there but I think the IPL will in a way decide who will get that position,” Ganguly said on Tuesday.

“I suggested Pujara’s name because he’s in great form. We’ve seen how well he did in Australia. I’ve seen Rahul Dravid playing World Cup and excelling at number four and five. We used to assign him a role. So I suggest, if you don’t have a ready number four batsman, you can consider Pujara,” Ganguly said on Tuesday.
Ganguly was also all praise for wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant and said that in the next ten years, the youngster will be an asset to the Indian cricket team.
“The biggest problem with Rishabh is how less game time he is getting in limited overs. MS Dhoni is an absolute champion and he plays most of the matches. Rishabh is coming in and going out all the time and that’s never good for anybody. The reason he succeeds in Test cricket is because he plays it consistently,” Ganguly said.
“How many Indian wicketkeeper-batsmen have got Test hundreds in England and Australia? And he scored them at ease, it’s not that he struggled... for me, he’s your future. For the next 10 years, you’ll see that boy a lot in all formats... He’ll be a huge asset to the Indian team in the years to come,” he added.

Former Australia captain and current Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting also echoed similar sentiments and said that if he was an Indian selector, he will be playing in the No.4 position.
“If I were an Indian selector, I’d be picking him in the World Cup squad and I’d play him as a batter,” Ponting said.
“I’d play him at number four in the Indian team. He’s that sort of guy with that sort of talent who can win you World Cup. He’s just got that X-factor...,” the former Australia skipper added.
