Telangana’s Sindhuja Reddy is all set to represent the US national women’s cricket team.
According to a press release from the Telangana government, the 26-year-old has been selected as wicketkeeper-batswoman.
Sindhuja hails from Amangal village in Nalgonda district and will be part of the US squad in the World Twenty20 Qualifiers in Scotland in August. Sindhuja captained Hyderabad’s under-19 cricket team. She studied B Tech and MBA before moving to the US after her marriage.
Reports suggested that Sindhuja had almost given up on her cricketing dreams. But in the US she has found a new hope to re-launch her career.
She impressed the selectors with her skills both as a batswoman and a wicketkeeper after turning out for local clubs in the US. Sindhuja’s father Spurdhar Reddy said that she had keen interest in the game since her childhood.
However, Reddy is coming at a time when the USACA (United States of America Cricket Administration) was expelled by the ICC after earlier being suspended in 2015 over concerns about the governance, finance, reputation and cricketing activities.
In this period, a caretaker administration will oversee operations in USA and will continue to organise national team activities.
