Watch: Mohammed Shami's two-stump shattering scorcher makes his 100th IPL wicket memorable in GT vs CSK opener

The IPL 2023 is underway with defending champions Gujarat Titans bowling against Chennai Super Kings, and Mohammed Shami provided a rip-roaring start by picking up his 100th and the first wicket of the season. Bowling his second over of the innings coming round the wicket, Shami sent it a scorching rocket that bamboozled Devon Conway and left his stumps a royal mess. Shami's thunderous delivery not only cleaned up the New Zealand opener cheaply but uprooted his middle and off stump in a rousing start to the Indian Premier League.
With this, Shami became the 15th Indian and 19th bowler overall to scalp 100 IPL wickets. The list he joins comprises some of the legends of world and IPL cricket such as Dwayne Bravo, Lasith Malinga, Rashid Khan and others. Among Indians, Shami has joined Yuzvendra Chahal – who has the most wickets – followed by Amit Mishra, Piyush Chawla, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harbhajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Sandeep Sharma, Ashish Nehra, R Vinay Kumar, Zaheer Khan and Axar Patel.

This is the 94th IPL match of Shami's career and he couldn't have hoped for a more exciting start. Having said that, it is interesting to note that not once has Shami been able to secure a five-wicket-haul in all the 10 season that he has played so far. The most wickets Shami has taken in a single innings is three and his career-best figures read 3/15 in 2020 against Delhi Capitals.
Shami has developed a penchant for clean bowling opponents. He did that time and against Australia in the recently-concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy earlier this month. Watching his dismissal, even on-air commentor Ravi Shastri couldn't keep calm. In his ever-so-booming voice, Shastri erupted: "BOWLED HIM! Right through his defense. It's Mohammed Shami on fire. He has done that time and time again. And what a way to get his 100th wicket in IPL."
