Dehradun: State agitators came together on a common forum on Saturday in a programme held at the Hindi Bhavan for making Gairsain the capital of Uttarakhand. They have reached the conclusion that they will now take to the streets to press for the demand of shifting the capital of Uttarakhand to Gairsain from present Dehradun.
The programme was addressed by director of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Colonel Ajay Kothiyal where he expressed his concern over Gairsain.
BJP leader and social activist Ravindra Jugran said, that Gairsain should be made the capital of Uttarakhand as the majority of the people want it. “The capital of every hill state is situated in the hills with Uttarakhand being an exception”, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, activist Raghubir Bisht said, that the overall development of Uttarakhand is only possible if Gairsain is made the state capital. He also refuted the plea that Gairsain was not a feasible option for lack of infrastructure.
Sawmi Darshan Bharti, a social activist said, that people will no longer accept Gairsain as the summer capital and that it was high time that it was declared the permanent capital.
Kailash Joshi, another state agitator said, that the forum was formed to seek public opinion on the Gairsain issue. It was decided that the forum will start a series of programmes and conduct mass demonstrations for the achievement of its goal.
