“The scheme was launched in January 2008 for the collection of crime and terrorist-related intelligence directly from the public,” Delhi police chief Y.S. Dadwal said.

“The scheme’s stakeholders include citizens employed as rehriwallahs and watchmen, and also cyber café and guest house owners.” Yogindra Pal Sharma (34), a cyber café owner, had helped the police catch two people allegedly responsible for making duplicate Ministry of Home Affairs identification cards nine months ago.

“We have presented citizens with amounts ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 50,000 - depending on the gravity of the crime,” Dadwal said.
