The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday said national capital New Delhi could experience rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds between May 20 and May 22.

Delhi has been facing sweltering heat on since Monday

Temperatures have soared to almost 46 degrees Celsius. Last year, the highest temperature recorded at Safdarjung was 44 degrees Celsius on May 3, while the highest in 2015 was 45.5 degrees, recorded on May 26 of that year.

According to the IMD forecast the heat wave would likely to pass over the next few days. The temperature would likely to drop to around 40 degrees Celsius by the end of the week. But it warned of another spell of intense heat soon after.
