A minor girl fell off the eleventh floor of a building in Faridabad on Wednesday allegedly in a bid to escape. The 14-year-old, who was allegedly being ‘tortured’ by her employer, got caught in a net and was saved. Doctors said the child had been beaten up and suffers from malnourishment.

Police said they were informed about the incident around 7pm. Residents of Kanishka Tower in Sector 37 Faridabad spotted the minor caught in a net on the tenth floor. The net had been reportedly tied to the balcony grille to keep away pigeons.

“The girl was caught in the net of a flat (number 1001), which was locked. After she was spotted by locals, the flat was opened by the girl’s employer and she was rescued. We learnt that she had been badly beaten up. She worked as a house help with a student from Patna, who is studying at a private university,” said Tarun Sharma, a resident of B block in Kanishka Tower.

Once the police control room was alerted, a team from Sarai police station rushed to the spot. The girl’s employer, a student of engineering at Manav Rachna International University, was taken into custody. The minor was rushed to a local nursing home by residents.

“The child needs counselling and help from social welfare department. She was battered and is a victim of malnourishment,” said Rakesh Sharma of Astha Children Clinic.

Harish Malik, chairman of child welfare committee, said the victim was trying to run away and had made a similar attempt earlier. “I talked to her. After she made an attempt to flee some time back, the employer had been reprimanding and sometimes beating her,” he said. “On Wednesday, the victim tried to escape by using the grille to reach to 10th floor,” he added.

FIR has been registered against the accused identified as Sneha under JJ Act. The families of the accused and the victim are acquainted and based in Patna.

Police said they will record the teenager’s statement before the child welfare committee. “ A case will be registered. We have detained the girl’s employer,” SHO Sarai, Dalbir Singh said.
