Two men were caught by a mob on Friday for allegedly trying to throw a foetus off the Signature Bridge near Khajuri Khas in northeast Delhi. The men told police that they had been given the bag (containing the foetus) by another man, who is absconding, senior police officers said. Police are yet to make any arrest.

According to the police, it was around 11 am on Friday when the two men were spotted on the Bridge with a black bag, which they were hanging outward from the railing. Smelling something fishy, locals and passersby stopped and questioned them. When they could not give any satisfactory reply and tried to run away from the bridge, locals raised an alarm and caught them.

They checked the bag and found a premature foetus in it. The mob then called the police.

Police identified the two men as Indradutt Kaushik (23) and Aman Thakur (19).

“A police team reached the spot. When questioned, the two men revealed that they had been given the bag by one Harpal Singh, a resident of Khajuri Khas. The police called Harpal Singh who arrived at the spot. Initially, he denied that he knew the two men. Later, taking advantage of the crowd, he allegedly fled from the scene with the bag,” said a senior police officer.

DCP (northeast) Atul Thakur said, “The role of the two men is being verified. Singh is on the run and attempts to trace him are underway. We have registered a case and the matter is being probed.”
