Strong winds greeted Delhiites on Monday morning, in a prelude to rain and thunderstorm expected later in the day, officials of the Met department said.
The wind speed was around 20-25 km/hr around 8.30am on Monday, a substantial increase from just 10km/hr on Sunday.
“Delhi should get rains by Monday evening and it could continue through the night. The rains will be accompanied by thunderstorm,” a weather official said.
“Nearby states such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab have already received rain. Some parts of NCR too have witnessed rainfall today. Though Delhi has been left untouched so far, it is only a matter of time,” the weather official said.
The temperature on Monday is expected to hover between 13 and 25.5 degree Celsius, said the weather official. “Wind and hovering clouds will cause an increase in the minimum temperature. The maximum could dip by nearly 5ºC after the rain,” he said.
The temperature on Sunday had oscillated between 8.5 ºC and 25.5 ºCelsius.
Meanwhile, the pollution levels remained moderate in most parts of the city on Monday morning. The average air quality index (AQI) stood at 182. The AQI is calculated on a scale of 0-500. An AQI between 0-0 is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 severe.
