18-year-old found hanging at tutor’s house in Ghaziabad, teacher ‘untraced’

An 18-year-old student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her tuition teacher’s house at Noor Nagar Colony in Ghaziabad on Thursday morning.

Shalini, a BCom student, took coaching from her neighbour Arjun Kumar (24). At the time of the incident, Arjun was allegedly not at home.

Arjun lives with his father Ramesh Kumar and a nephew, said police. The body was reportedly spotted by the nephew.

“Shalini’s family alleged that she had gone to Arjun’s house at around 5.30 am for coaching, but his family informed at around 8 am that she was hanging inside one of the rooms of the house,” said Manish Mishra, circle officer (city).

The family said they went to Arjun’s house, where Shalini was found hanging inside the room and the door was broken, officer Mishra said.

“She was rushed to hospital but was declared dead. Her family has alleged that Arjun also fled after the incident,” he said.

Shalini’s family forwarded a police complaint against Arjun at the Sihani Gate police station. An FIR for abetting suicide was lodged against him.

“The FIR is lodged but Arjun is presently not traceable. We are yet to inquire more from Shalini’s family about any sort of events or relationship which could have led to the incident,” Mishra said.

He said they awaited postmortem reports and that they would approach Shalini’s family a little later.

On the other hand, Arjun’s father told police that Arjun had gone to Meerut early Thursday morning to attend to an ailing relative.

He also said that Shalini had arrived at their place early on Thursday morning and asked for the keys of the room where she took coaching from Arjun.

He told her that Arjun was not at home. But Shalini insisted on having the key, he told the police.

Later she was found hanging in the room.
