NEW DELHI: A delegation of auto and taxi unions on Tuesday met Delhi transport minister Satyendar Jain to discuss their various demands including revision of fares in the city.

Rajendra Soni, a member of Joint Action Committee formed by the city’s 20 auto and taxi unions, said that the minister assured the delegation to “increase fares” of taxi and auto-rickshaws plying in Delhi.

“The minister has also agreed to reduce 4-hour class to 2 hour for those drivers seeking renewal of their licenses. The transport minister has also assured us that there will be no charge for attending these classes,” Soni said.

In a statement, Soni said the government will not allow those drivers who don’t have licenses and PSV badges to ply their vehicles and that both requirements will be made compulsory at the time of registration of new auto-rickshaws and taxis in Delhi.
