Cut-offs unlikely to fall much as DU set to release second list today

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University will release the second list of cutoffs for admission to its colleges on Monday night but principals of popular colleges have cautioned against expecting a big dip.

Ramanujan College, an off campus institution in south Delhi’s Kalkaji, has already released a second list with a maximum decrease of just 1% across courses. It closed admissions to BCom (Pass) and BCom (Hons) after seats were taken up in the first round of admissions that ended Saturday, despite high cut-offs of 92% and 95%, respectively.

Traditionally, colleges in the north and south campus put out more demanding cut-offs than their off-campus counterparts. Most colleges are expected to stick with a dip of 0.25-1%.

Principal of Kirori Mal College Dinesh Khattar said, “My college has already filled 600 seats out of a total of 1,385. Seats in History (Hons), BSc (Programme) Physical Sciences and Sanskrit (Hons) are almost full. So the dip in cut-offs will be marginal.”

Daulat Ram College too has only 505 seats left across courses, including few in Biochemistry (Hons), Zoology (Hons) and BA (Programme).

“In my college, cut-off will come down by a maximum of 1%. The dip will be marginal in sought-after courses,” said principal Savita Roy. She, however, added that seats may open up as students withdraw to join other colleges when the second round of admissions begins Tuesday.

Indraprastha College for Women has filled up seats in History (Hons) while Hindu College and Sri Venkateswara College may not come up with a second list for Political Science (Hons). However, in good news for aspirants popular colleges such as Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Lady Shri Ram College, Hansraj College and Ramjas College have said they will come out with a second list.
