NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Saturday arrested two men in an alleged case of drug trafficking and seized 3 kg of opium from them.

Police claimed that an inmate of Chittorgarh jail was behind the racket. The men were identified as, Sonu Banjara (19) and Dinesh Chandel (35).
While Sonu acted as a drug carrier, Dinesh used to keep the stock ready to be floated in the market.
“An tip off was received by inter-state cell that Sonu, who supplies opium in Delhi, Haryana and Punjab, would come near Singhu Border at Guru Teg Bahadur Memorial. Based on this, a team was constituted to nab him. A trap was laid at the place and Sonu Banjara was apprehended,” said joint commissioner of police (crime) Ravindra Yadav.
During interrogation, Sonu disclosed that he was supplying the contraband on the directions of one Mangi Lal, presently lodged in Chittorgarh Jail in a similar case. He said that Lal controls the racket from inside the jail.
Sonu said he only acts as a carrier and supplies opium in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan.
“He further disclosed that he received the said contraband from one Dinesh Chandel, a farmer. Mangi Lal had asked him to collect the contraband from Dinesh. On Sonu’s information, Dinesh Chandel was also arrested from Neemach, MP,” Yadav said.
Efforts are being made to bring Mangi Lal to Delhi from Chittorgarh Jail, police said.
