NEW DELHI: A 55-year-old doctor was arrested last week for allegedly raping and threatening a 24-year-old patient at his clinic in south Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar, police said on Wednesday. The crime took place on Friday.

Sushil Munjal, a pulmonologist, was arrested on Saturday. He was later produced before a city court that sent him to Tihar jail. Munjal’s wife is a gynecologist and the couple run a clinic in Lajpat Nagar Part-II, said police.

The woman, who lives with her family in central Delhi’s Karol Bagh, was undergoing treatment for throat infection at Munjal’s clinic for the past some weeks. The woman told police that on Friday, she reached Munjal’s clinic around 8 pm for a check-up.

The woman said that when she reached the clinic told her that the doctor couple was about to leave. However, only Munjal’s wife left while he remained at the clinic.

The victim said she was on her way back home when Munjal allegedly called her on her mobile number. He asked her to come to the clinic as he was available.

The doctor allegedly raped her in his chamber.
