Hans symposium celebrates 136th birthday of Premchand

NEW DELHI: Marking the 136th birthday of literary legend Premchand, the annual ‘Hans’ symposium was held on Sunday.

NEW DELHI: Marking the 136th birthday of literary legend Premchand, the annual ‘Hans’ symposium was held on Sunday.

This year, it also celebrated 31 years of the re-launch of the Hindi literary magazine by eminent writer Rajendra Yadav. The magazine was launched by Premchand in 1930.

The symposium saw an engaging debate on the subject ‘Loktantra Aur Rashtravaad – Media ki Bhoomika’. The panel consisted of historian Harbans Mukhia, journalist Saeed Naqvi, Hindi writer and journalist Mrinal Pandey, journalist Chandan Mitra, TV journalist Rajdeep Sardesai and professor Vineet Kumar.

If Mrinal Pande lamented the limitations of Hindi media in researching and writing about matters relating to economics, finance and other contemporary issues, Rajdeep Sardesai impressed with his impassioned speech in Hindi.

Harbans Mukhiya closed the debate with his thought-provoking views on the prevailing state of affairs in the media.
