High drama as unruly passenger misbehaves with air hostesses

NEW DELHI: There was high drama on-board a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight on Tuesday, when an unruly passenger created a ruckus and misbehaved with air hostesses.

The incident took place on board IndiGo flight 6E 256 from Bhubaneswar to Delhi. The passenger was identified as Prem Kumar.

IndiGo said that during the course of the flight, Kumar told the crew that he did not know how to tie the seat belt. The crew assisted him.

“The passenger then went to the lavatory where he pressed the call bell requesting assistance in the aircraft lavatory,” an airline statement said.

The crew immediately went to the lavatory to help him, but saw him there in an objectionable state, it added.

“The female crew member refused to go inside and politely requested him to maintain some level of decency while using the lavatory,” the statement said.

“Also, during securance of landing, the passenger passed derogatory remarks about the female crew member. Our IndiGo crew on board immediately alerted the captain-in-command who alerted the CISF staff and an FIR was lodged in a local police station in Bhubaneswar.”

“The matter is being investigated by the authorities,” the statement said.

DCP (Airport) Sanjay Bhatia said the passenger refused to wear a seat belt, stood on his seat, opened the overhead bins and disturbed the other passengers.

We are probing the complaint and will take legal action,” he added.

“Strict action should be taken against passengers who create problems on board, which makes the travelling experience of other passengers a nightmare,” said aviation expert Rajji Rai.

In an another incident, a passenger allegedly molested and misbehaved with an airhostess on board an Air India flight from New York.

The incident happened on board AI flight 102 on Tuesday.

The passenger allegedly patted the crew member on her back and repeatedly asked her for alcohol.

“The crew informed the captain who in turn informed AI security officials at the Delhi airport. The plane was still four hours away from Delhi,” said an official.

The moment the aircraft landed, the passenger, who hailed from Jalandhar, was detained by Air India security staff and CISF officials, and taken to the Indira Gandhi International airport police station.

The crew however, did not file an official complaint with the local police, and the passenger was allowed to leave.
