JNU students to stick to Lyngdoh guidelines for polls

NEW DELHI: The JNU Students’ Union, which had earlier decided to not follow the Lyngdoh committee recommendations and hold the student body polls as per the JNU Constitution, has had a change of opinion. The student’s body now has decided to conduct its elections as per recommendations of the Lyngdoh committee.

In two previous general body meetings held in December 2015 and March this year, resolution was passed that the J NUS U polls will be conducted as per the university constitution and not per the Lyngdoh panel’s recommendations.

The committee headed by former chief election commissioner JM Lyngdoh had in 2005 recommended a spending cap of ` 5,000 on election expenses per candidate.
