GREATER NOIDA: A juvenile was held for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl in Jewar on Monday, police said.

The victim of Salliyan area of Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar was reportedly raped in the afternoon when she was returning from school.
“The victim’s father and uncle claimed they heard her screams from a sugarcane farm and found that a boy was trying to rape her. They nabbed him and handed him over to the police. A case under relevant sections of the I PC was registered against the accused ,” said Dileep Singh, circle officer, Jewar.
The girl, a student of Class 9, was sent to undergo a medico-legal test, reports of which are awaited. The police sent the accused to the juvenile detention centre.
“In the primary investigation, it was found that the girl and the accused were known to each other. The victim’ s family claims that the boy offered her a lift to her residence on a bike but took her to a field and raped her,” said Singh.
The FIR was registered under rape charge though the medical report has not come.
The incident is the latest in a string of crimes against women in the state in which hundreds of women are sexually assaulted every year. Data compiled by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) for 2014 show 38,467 incidents of crime against women in the state. These crimes also include cases of kidnapping and abduction, dowry deaths and cruelty by husband.
